Exhibition launch: Paul Cairns
We officially open our Paul Cairns exhibition on Culture Night and the artist himself will be there – come say hi.
This is Paul’s first exhibition in Ireland since leaving the UK, where he had been based since 1996 (Bow Arts Trust and then Gatehouse Arts studios in Harlow Essex). He returned to Milford about a year ago to be closer to the mountains and environment that inspired most of his early work, to get a more direct response than can be worked up in his studio.
Date: Thursday 7 September 2017 – Saturday 14 October 2017
William Dunlop, Armoy 2016
This will be the first time I’ve showed work in Ireland and it’s a nice long run. As well as paintings based on landscape; the lake road I’ve also been working on a series of paintings around road racing.
I’ll be in the gallery space on Friday 22/09/17 evening. as part of Culture week.

Art studio before image
This is my new studio having relocated to Milford, Donegal. Situated by Mulroy bay and surrounded by a rugged mountainous landscape, it’s the sort of landscape I’ve often thought back to to inform my work, so unless I start getting nostalgic for London I should have plenty to keep me busy.
After some TLC, now with added lights, improved guttering and so on.
Front entrance for the studio, it has its own path (but no one in Ireland uses the front anyway- they are just there to dupe canvasers).
Now where did I leave those paint brushes?
Over the next few months I will be helping out with Gallery Technician duties, for the Gibberd Gallery, here in Harlow. There are some good shows coming up so it should be a good experience.

The studios are much expanded this year with lots of new faces and decent work. The overall numbers through the main doors were a little lower but not too dissimilar to the previous year but a few of the artists noted (including me) having less footfall through their studio. It is easier to miss a floor or corridor than before.
New painting inspired by a residency at DSME, Thames Ditton in 2010
I had some sketches of this turntable from a short residency I did back in 2010, working in the studios of Phillippa Edgerton. Anyway I wasn’t happy with the work I produced at the time so thought I’d have another go.
A few of the 49 guests that showed up to the launch night.
The Trails show was nicely curated by Freya and Wellington, so my thanks to them. It was a respectable turn out on the night.
last minute touch up
Well, it wouldn’t be an exhibition if there wasn’t some last minute touch ups needed.
Balloons, being prepared by one of the other artists (Patricia McGuinness-center) and assistants.
I will post some more general shots of the exhibition soon.
